Vitamin D is critical for the function of your immune system!
Human beings have been exposed to viruses for millenniums. Unfortunately, we are currently facing one of the worse viruses that we have possibly encountered.
But what about if vitamin D was the key factor that could help combat this invisible enemy.
When humans are exposed to sunlight, their skin produces vitamin D, a fat-soluble vitamin that offers many health benefits. These benefits include helping maintain a healthy immune system and the growth and development of bones and teeth.
The following excerpt from the book, Solar Power for Optimal Health, describes the importance of vitamin D, as well as how it was first discovered.
“Sunshine is a marvelous health-giving and healing power in the world. While sunshine is death to disease-producing agencies, it is life and health to all-natural forms of life.
Sit in the sun, recline in the sun, walk on the sunny side of the street, avoid parasols, and ever recognize the sun as a friend and not an enemy, a promoter of health, and a destroyer of disease.”
According to research, up to 90% of the population is deficient in vitamin D! In order to help reverse this problem, sun exposure is critical as it is clearly the purest and most efficient source of increasing one’s vitamin D levels. On a typical summer day, 15 to 20 minutes of sunlight exposure results in the skin producing about 40,000 IU of vitamin D, and the mechanism that produces it then shut down to prevent the body from taking too much.
Since the summer months are often short and much of it is still spent indoors, it is very important to “stock up” during this time. If one is able to get adequate exposure during the sunny months, vitamin D levels can be stored for two to three months to help get through the winter months.
In addition, for the winter months, supplementation may be necessary. You can consume 5000 IU of vitamin D3 during those months.
Science demonstrates that vitamin D has antiviral properties.
Let’s look at this study:
“Vitamin D and the anti-viral state”
And this is the link to the actual article:
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3308600/
This study shows that vitamin D is protective against flu viruses
Here another one:
“VITAMIN D FOR TREATMENT AND PREVENTION Of INFECTIOUS DISEASES: A SYSTEMATIC REVIEW OF RANDOMIZED CONTROLLED TRIALS”
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2855046/
The authors of this study state:
“On the basis of studies reviewed to date, the strongest evidence supports further research into adjunctive vitamin D therapy for tuberculosis, influenza, and viral upper respiratory tract illnesses.”
Interestingly, they mentioned that vitamin D helps with upper respiratory tract illness, which is what this coronavirus is causing!
And finally, this study is important to read:
“Vitamin D and respiratory health”
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2759054/
The scientists say:
“Vitamin D appears capable of inhibiting pulmonary inflammatory responses while enhancing innate defense mechanisms against respiratory pathogens.”
In conclusion, vitamin D might be the missing piece for us to fight the coronavirus. Consistent with this, vitamin D has antiviral properties that have been shown to kill a variety of viruses.
Obviously, the best source of vitamin D is the sun.
In addition, these foods are also a good source: salmon, herrings, sardines, cod liver oil, tuna, shrimp, eggs, bacon, and mushrooms.
God bless y’all 😊
