My journey to becoming a Nutrition Response Testing Practitioner…

My life has always revolved around healthcare. The fact that my father was a physician gave me a unique perspective on allopathic medicine. As a child, I spent many afternoons after school wandering my father’s office, watching his bedside manner, and observing his genuine servant heart when dealing with patients. Sadly, I also saw my father suffer the ravages of diabetes and heart disease. This plagued him for years before he passed away in 2008. They are the moments that are etched in my mind and where my passion for helping people began. Despite being raised in traditional medicine, I chose an alternative career and became a chiropractor in 2008.

In retrospect, I appreciate the expression “hindsight is 20/20”. As I reflect on my life, I can see my history of undiagnosed hormonal dysfunction. Although my father was a medical doctor, I suffered from a variety of symptoms that went undetected for most of my life. As a Generation-Xer, unless you were carrying or dragging a bleeding limb, no one cared about your symptoms, so my excess weight and abnormal menstrual cycles persisted. Upon deciding to have a baby, I consulted a specialist. He explained to me that I would have difficulty conceiving unless I addressed my hormonal imbalance, which I did not do. Luckily, as a result of God’s grace, I gave birth to a beautiful daughter in 2003. In the weeks that followed, I had difficulty walking farther than a short distance, I experienced brain fog, and my hair began to fall out and somehow found its way to my chin! Still unsure of the cause, I attributed my symptoms to the stress of pregnancy and being a full-time chiropractic student, and at least my symptoms subsided to a manageable level (except the chin hair).

Fast forward to 2018, I had been struggling with excessive fatigue and a rash on both my forearms for about a year. Not just any rash, but an angry, inflamed rash that made my skin appear thick, like animal hide! The appearance of it embarassed me, and I felt like a leper. Enter Dr. Serge of Mind Body Solutions… I met him during an introductory class to Nutrition Response Testing he taught at the time. Though I had taken Applied Kinesiology courses during chiropractic college, NRT provided an actual protocol that facilitated its application. My curiosity was piqued! Consequently, I began working with Dr. Serge both as a patient and as a practitioner. During the first few weeks following the start of my customized program, I was already noticing the changes taking place in my body. My rash was the most noticeable improvement because I could see it, and over time I started losing weight and feeling better. I am so grateful to have finally found answers after 45 years of hormonal dysfunction.

I am still in the process of working on myself. In my journey, I have discovered how physical, chemical, and emotional stress are interconnected and related to the emotional distress I endured as a child, eventually leading me to seek comfort in food. Although I have come a long way, I wish I could say that I have it all figured out, however, on many occasions, when I am triggered, I resort to old patterns. In the meantime, I will show myself some grace, understand that healing isn’t linear, and continue peeling back the layers so I can reach the convoluted matrix where the root cause of my issues originated.

With gratitude,

Dr. Stacey Delgado, D.C.
